Happy Cave Carson Has A Cybernetic Eye Day!

Super proud of this one, and I got to work on it with some really great friends. From what I’ve read, people seem to be getting the tone we were going for with this and really embracing the “sad dad” genre of storytelling. It’s just so different than all the other Young Animal books and it’s nice to see people find something in this to latch onto.
Written by Jon Rivera (@jonrivera80) and myself, it really was a blast to help create. Jon and I work together pretty fluidly, having worked together over the years on various things. I will never forget that fated comedy writing class where we met at SVA.
Mike Oeming on the art (@oeming) really outdid himself and captures this mix of silver-age energy with modern day gloom. His pages are always bursting with energy and mood, and this book has a ton of both. Nick Filardi (@nick_filardi) handled the colors, and it is amazing to watch him shift through various gears, experimenting and pushing the limits the whole time. Clem Robbins handled lettering and really did make the whole book flow and also wonderful to read.
And our fearless editor—! Molly Mahan (@molitude) was there from the get-go, helping forge the team and directing us the whole way. I feel like a lot of what makes a great editor is asking the right questions, and Molly did a spectacular job with getting us to come up with the right answers. She really helped make a special book, and continues to do so on the books she edits for the imprint.
As always, special thanks to Shelly Bond (@sxbondimprimatur) for all the support and help and sharing the collective vision.
And we had the help of a couple of comic legends with the variant covers this time, from left to right- the main cover by Mike Oeming and Nick Filardi, followed by Bill Sienkiewicz’s stunning and energetic take on Team Carson, and followed by the amazing Matt Wagner (of Grendel fame) with Brennan Wagner, creating a somber and mysterious cover.
