Only about one in 8 male lions will survive to adulthood, take territory and lead a pride. It's a tough life made more difficult each day as their habitat shrinks and people take more land daily. @dereckjoubert and I were hoping that lions would be afforded full protection at the recent #citescop17 meeting but they remain on Appendix II and the trade in bones and body parts of captive lions for canned hunting is still allowed and adds another threat to the continued existence of wild lions. Botswana however, has stated that there will be no hunting nor trade of any of their lions. This regal animal will at least be safe from hunting and trade and will only have to deal with the difficulties of being a lion in the wild. #NatGeoInspires #bigcats #causeanuproar #worthmorealive
