Enslaved brickmakers, carpenters, and stonemasons worked seven days a week to construct the White House—a representative symbol of democracy. Now one of its bricks is in our @nmaahc.
The building brick will be on display in the museum's "Slavery and Freedom" exhibition, which uses personal stories to explore the economic and political legacies of slavery for all Americans, starting with the 15th century and going through the Emancipation Proclamation.
We're highlighting objects from our newest museum this week, before it opens Sept. 24. Follow along with #APeoplesJourney.
