This is a recent as-yet-unseen image of @レニー・クラヴィッツ hanging out with the locals on a very hot afternoon this summer. One of the things I love about him - given all the success he's had over the last 27 years since #LetLoveRule came out - is how simply he can live. He may have sold 40 million albums but in Eleuthera, he's a local. He's just Lenny. And sometimes he's "Lenny Travis." People don't act funny around him, they don't ask him to film birthday videos, or to record their outgoing voicemail message, or interrupt a lunch conversation to ask for a selfie. This is a place where being respectful is a constant state of mind. The day I left the Bahamas a couple weeks ago, Lenny got up early to clean trash off the side of the road to raise awareness for keeping the island clean. The day before that, he was helping older ladies with carrying their luggage onto a water taxi. Normal stuff our mothers taught us yes, but many celebrities feel above all that. I met Lenny 30 years ago and knew both his mother Roxie Roker and his grandfather Albert (both very strong Bahamians). That all comes from their good and uncompromising family education. Side note: the man Lenny is talking to, Omar Davis, is the one who's fist is in the #DarkerThanBlue show. // Darker Than Blue is on view at the @LeicaGalleryLA now through October 17.
