“In the book, Miss Peregrine smokes the pipe, but in the photographs, she looks quite different from Tim’s version. My Miss Peregrine looks more stylized from the forties, very feminine, quite sexy, and a bit more birdlike than the original Miss Peregrine. It took quite a while to find the look, to combine the bird with the woman without being too obvious. In the film, my character has a flick in the hair, kind of a specific eye shape that makes it quite birdlike. #ColleenAtwood, the costume designer, is a genius, and it’s all in the details... Costume, hair, and makeup are always so important for an actor. They help you get under the skin of the person. The moment I put on the dark blue wig and the sexy costume and those high heels, I felt more centered and became Miss Peregrine. Everything makes sense when you’re in costume.”
