Artist Theo van Doesburg, one of the founders of the De Stijl magazine and group alongside Vilmos Huszár, Piet Mondrian, Bart van der Leck, and Georges Vantongerloo, was born today in 1883. In his painting "Composition in Gray (Rag-time)", 1919, van Doesburg followed Mondrian’s example by systematically reducing pictorial elements to colors and geometric forms.
