Two crazy but completely accurate stats following last night's @UFC card: Damian Maia has absorbed a total of THIRTEEN(?!) significant strikes in his last FOUR(?!) fights. And he is the first person to submit Carlos Condit in a decade.
This is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Artfully avoiding damage, causing little harm, and finishing your opponent humanely, and completely.
Maia has the best BJJ I've ever seen in MMA, in an era where experts will tell you pure ANY fighting technique is not effective against today's hybrid-trained fighters. Paraben, Mr. Maia. OSS.
Also, Carlos Condit is one of my my favorite fighters to watch. I admire his tenacity, his technique, and his class and grace. He makes violence beautiful. If this was his last fight, I will miss him terribly.
