Mali and Angola came up dominant in Saturday's 2016 #FIBAU18Africa Women’s Championship action.
The defending champions Mali cruised past Mozambique 65-42, while Angola outscored Madagascar 53–32.
Mozambique had a good start to the game, leading 13-9 in the first quarter, but Leonel Manhique's team could not maintain their rhythm for long enough as Mali took a three-point lead at half-time.
After the break the Western Africans kept the momentum making 18 points from fast-breaks, leaving Mozambique to comeback in the game.
Adama Coulibaly sparked Mali with a game-high 19 points, while Silvia Veloso paced Mozambique with a team-best 13 points.
In the day’s second game, Angola faced tough competition from Madagascar early on, but they pulled off a 17-11 lead at the end of the opening quarter.
Elisa Pires’ team, who led 24-21 at the break, outscored the islanders 21-7 in third quarter to enter the final quarter with a comfortable 45-28 lead.
The Angolans trailed by two early in the contest, but went on to secure a deserving 53-32 triumph to open their Group A campaign.
Tunisia posted a resounding 65 - 26 win against debutants Uganda in the last game of Group B.
