@gillessabrie photographed a Tibetan nomad taking visitors for a ride at a campsite called Norden on the #Tibetan plateau. At Norden Camp, cabins and yak wool tents have wooden floors, custom-made felt blankets and access to hot showers. An American bartender mixes a cocktail called the Cloudy Nomad, made of barley wine and honey. And before (or after) cocktails, visitors can head to the yoga center or the sauna. Norden is the first site for #glamping — that’s glamorous camping — in the vast Chinese-ruled Tibetan region, one of the most austere parts of the world. A Tibetan-American family opened the camp in 2013 to raise revenue for its core enterprise: Norlha, a textile-weaving business that employs mostly women from a nearby village. Their textiles, made of yak wool, are sold in New York and Paris. Needless to say, this is not your typical business on these wind-scrubbed pastures.
