You might have seen 19-year-old Ruth Jebet win #Bahrain's first-ever Olympic gold medal. But there was one catch: Jebet was born and raised in #Kenya, and still lives and trains there. She was running for Bahrain for "financial reasons,” and it is just one example of how some nations are paying BIG bucks to import talent, effectively 'buying' Olympic medals. To be sure, 'buying athletes' isn't unique to Bahrain. Qatar, United Arab Emirates and Turkey have all been known in the past decade to pay to import elite athletes. So when you track those country medal counts during the #Olympics, just remember to take them with a grain of salt. Anything worth winning is worth paying for. #rio2016
