Photo by @argonautphoto (Aaron Huey). In the fall and early winter of 1890, thousands of Native Americans, including many #OglalaLakota, became followers of a holy man called Wovoca. His vision called for the native people to dance the Ghost Dance and wear special shirts, which would be impervious to bullets. Wovoca had predicted that, through this ceremony, the white man would vanish and their hunting grounds would be restored. One of the last known Ghost Dances was conducted on #StrongholdTable in the South Unit of #BadlandsNationalPark, South Dakota.
In this image Louie Brings Plenty walks into the Badlands toward the Stronghold with a braid of burning sweet grass to sing a prayer for all his relations. #MitakuyeOyasin #PineRidgeIndianReservation.
