Another super detail shot of the Museum today, this time by @diegoleonelli. You can get a sense of the monumental scale of the columns around the exterior of the building in this photo. The architect Robert Smirke designed the Museum in a Greek Revival style that was popular at the time – it referenced the ideas and aspirations of ancient Greece. While referencing the past, the building was as up-to-date as possible in 1823. It was built with a concrete floor, and much of the frame of the building is cast iron – revolutionary at the time!
