Bridging Stories

After decades of highlighting global and local issues facing all of us, I realized something more had to be done. Action that is further reaching than only me as an engaged photographer working passionately on a project for change, realizing long ago that change comes too incrementally. More so, hope and opportunity -- true change -- comes from within.
•
This project came to fruition while working with @anushbabajanyan last year on the National Geographic story, Ghostlands. As a means to end indifference, create balance by individuals highlighting their collective commonality as an act of peace building, we nurtured this simple truth -- everyone has a story to tell, who better to tell it than those who live it.
•
Through the NGO, Storytellers Cafe and with the extreme generous support of the US Embassy in Armenia, this seedling of an idea, planted in the soil as I sat in the rain beside an ancient bridge in ruined beauty along a river that once bridged yet now divided two nation, this project grew and has taken root, now about to grow into the grandest banyan tree for change.

Beginning in August, please join me over the next 4 months as photographers from Turkey and Armenia come together for the greater purpose, telling their own stories of commonality using the simple yet poignant mean of communication, photography, to highlight their own stories, their similarities and parallels of interests, experiences shared by young people from both countries in the act of #BridgingStories, each becoming an ambassador for change, hope and yes, peace.
