I couldn't help myself. Sure, the view of the Watchman from canyon junction in Zion National Park is one of the most photographed views in the park any given sunrise or sunset will find you lined up next to a bunch of other photographers with and without tripods. It's a beautiful view, indeed, and one that doesn't need more publicity. But I am not against nor below grabbing those iconic, often over photographed scenic vistas, if for no other reason than there is a reason they are so often photographed: they are always quite beautiful. But truthfully, I also love just chatting with other photogs in these parks...listening to where they've been and what they love about the park. I almost always come away with, or provide, a new tip to a place that I, or they, haven't heard about. To me, I shoot these iconic places to grab a nice image, share some information with like-minded folks, and maybe make a new friend or two. And I consider that a sunset well-spent.
