Don't they look like the claws of a reptile? Birds are living dinosaurs and they're fascinating in their adaptations. Why do penguins have such long claws? Well, they need to come on land every year to breed, which means awkwardly clambering across rocky beaches and snowy slopes in order to reach their nesting grounds.
