Built with oil money and 1700 cranes, Astana is Kazakhstan’s new capital city. Pulsing with superlative engineering, global cash, and ostentatiously futuristic architecture, Astana looks like a Manhattan on the steppe. Reflecting in its twin tower’s glitzy façade, Railroad Tower 2 rises over Astana’s city center. Once completed, it will be the tallest building in all of Kazakhstan.
