REPOST - "After struggling with my mental health (largely untreated) for much of my adult life, this year I finally hit rock bottom, contemplated suicide, and had a breakdown that led me to seek psychiatric care for the first time in my life. Just a few weeks ago, at the age of 42, I was diagnosed with Bipolar. You'd think it would be scary (and indeed it was in the beginning), but actually the opposite was true. It is freeing and empowering to have something to treat, and have a direction to go, and have hope in controlling it instead of letting it control me. I'm working with both a doctor and a therapist now, am on appropriate medications, and am slowly implementing changes in diet, in lifestyle, and in overall self-care.
