Talking with #CokieRoberts , @sheisdash , & @nlyonne about mental illness and the US criminal justice system at the American Psychiatric Excellence Awards. There are 1.25 million mentally ill people incarcerated compared to 40,000 mentally ill people in psychiatric hospitals. Rikers Island houses more mentally ill people than any other facility in the US. The way we treat mental illness in our country is absolutely shameful.
