With #DisguiseBKM just one week away, we're looking at—and through—masks from the #BKMAfricanart collection. The masks made by Bwa and Nuna artists in Burkina Faso combine bold geometric forms and bright colors with stylized elements of often multiple animals. Masks such as this embodied spirits that played important roles in daily life, and would have performed at key events (funerals, initiations, harvests) in the life of their community.
