Yellowstone // A male grizzly pauses briefly during a bought of scent-rubbing in an area where an elk had been killed by wolves. Bears often takeover carcasses from wolves. Bears use scent as a way to remotely communicate with each other and to avoid aggressive encounters. The skull and antlers of the large bull elk in background is connected to a longer story by @ronan_donovan
The bull elk in this photo kicked and killed the alpha male of the Mollies's wolf pack (photographed during a darting operation in my previous post). Learn more about bears @yellowstonenps in their annual grizzly bear report.
