A curious Whitecoat Harp Seal pup playfully rolls over in Canada’s Gulf of St. Lawrence. No more than 12 days old, the pup will soon embark on his first swim in the frigid waters of the Arctic. Harp seals are very social, and noisy, animals, often forming large colonies on the frozen tundra of Canada, while spending the majority of their time beneath the surface. Though these seals are hunted commercially for their fur, the loss of sea ice due to climate change is having an even more dramatic impact on this species.
