The Wallcreeper lives in a hostile, mostly inhospitable environment of high-mountain cliff faces, some more than 16,000 feet high. Some insects and reptiles have flourished in this environment of few predators. The Wallcreeper evolved to take advantage of this habitat, developing extremely sharp claws and tough, broad feathers in their wings to push off against rock faces from their minuscule holds, bounding along the cliffs in short, powerful bursts.
This image was originally taken on an assignment for @ナショナルジオグラフィック for an article, The Curious Evolution of Feathers. The subsequent collection of images taken for that assignment have been compiled into a book: Feathers - Displays of Brilliant Plumage.
Check out @Robert Clark for more feathers and information regarding the book.
