I've been given the green light to post this unique opportunity to see my mother's big band in a rare performance at the wonderful JALC in NYC on Feb 16th.
This year marks 60 years since my mother crossed the Pacific to study at Berklee School of Music, the first Japanese ever, and the rest is literally history. NHK (Japanese equivalent to BBC and PBS) is doing a documentary to commemorate this milestone and as part of the documentary, they put together a special performance of the big band, which my mother disbanded over a decade ago. The performance is free but tickets must be requested to the following: toshiko.concert@nhkcma.com
