Photo by @nickcobbing When conditions were right, formations like this would grow all over the ship. I found this detail on the frozen steps leading to the upper deck. The background here is clear, but often we were confined to the ship and unable to go on the ice because of fog, bad weather or because the ice was breaking up around us. On those days I would walk around the ship’s deck, hunting for frost flowers in the frozen garden that grew around us each night.
