Siberia’s wooded territories cover an area as large as all of the Continental United States excluding Alaska. Economic hardships have forced many regions in Siberia to allow clear cutting by Russian and foreign companies (Japanese, Chinese, American and North Korean). In addition, fires due to population increase and the carelessness of fisherman, hunters, and tourists are destroying large sections of the Taiga Forests.
