?@kephoto // When you have one day to climb and catch up with a friend you make the most of it. Kris Erickson has been a friend for the past 18 years. We've experienced the highs and lows of climbing. From new routes in Montana & Morocco to stomach turning seas in the South Atlantic to the empty hole one feels when a partner doesn't come back - we've had a few spins with the wheel of life.

He and his wife Chloe and their daughter Noor split their time between Chamonix, where Kris guides, and Morocco where Chloe teaches Arabic and restores ancient buildings. Visiting family in Montana and being part of the @bozemanicefest is an annual pilgrimage for Kris.

With a day of climbing we choose to make a "day" of it. For 23 hours we hiked around the main fork of Hyalite, visiting climbs we've done over the years. Like humans, ice climbs are never the same as change is constant. "Cleopatra's Needle", pictured here, was as fun as it ever was.
The highlight of our Hyalite mission was climbing the #alexlowe classic "Responsible Family Man" at four in the morning. As we approached the climb we spotted two big mountain goats resting on the ridge. Their eyes, reflected in the beam of our lamps, reminded us we are not alone. We share everything. The spindrift hammered away, making the experience a bit more real.
This is, after all, what we live for. Conversations on the trail, silly jokes at hour 17 and the trust your have in a partner.
