The spectacular view belies the fact that gas flares in western Siberia, like this one at the Samotlor oilfield, one of the world’s richest, not only wastes energy but contributes to global warming and environmental pollution. I am hopeful that the current climate talks in Paris will come to an agreement and potential solution to protect the Earth.
