"I have had zero luck photographing #GwenStefani over the past few years. She’s someone I always wanted to photograph, so when I heard she was breezing through for one quick show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in NYC, I knew this was finally my chance. Right before the show my excitement turned to panic when I realized that something was wrong with my lens and all my photos were coming out way too dark. Lens fail! While reaching into my camera bag to switch to my other lens, I somehow cut my lip open and started bleeding all over the place. Right then, Gwen burst on stage in all her glory and none of that mattered. I shoved some tissue paper in my mouth holding it with my teeth to stop the bleeding and just kept going. Missing this was not an option! This wasn’t my easiest shoot but I was just so happy to be there. And so blood and all, I finally got to shoot Gwen—a personal idol of mine, an amazing singer, a real rock chick, a fashion icon, businesswoman, mom, and so much more.” As told to @Rolling Stone by photographer @DanaDistortion
