Volunteers helped refugees, primarily from Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan, disembark on the Greek island of Lesbos. “The Aegean Sea is particularly rough, with the first signs of winter storms beginning in late September when I made this photograph,” wrote @ashgilbertson. “During their journey, many refugees were seasick, and some suffered from life-threatening dehydration and cold.” @ashgilbertson, a @viiphoto photographer, spent three weeks documenting the refugee crisis while on assignment for @unicef.
