I photographed this #Orangutan named Ollie back in 1988 as part of a series of photos that aimed to highlight the threat of extinction faced by many animal species. One of the most memorable experiences in this project was crouching down eyeball-to-eyeball with him and feeling him run his hands over my face. Orangutans get their name from “orang” meaning "person" and “hutan” meaning "forest", thus "person of the forest". When Ollie was gazing into this mirror, it was easy to see why they would be named thusly.
