Born in 1986 in Germany, photographer Sebastian Erras takes on a decidedly timeless subject with his Instagram feed @parisianfloors. While he started his photography career shooting wildlife, Erras found inspiration in the more unnoticed side of Paris: the ground. Paris’s centuries of architecture have as many different kinds of tile as there are paintings in the Louvre, and Erras is out to shoot them all. Every photo points straight down, capturing his feet standing on vibrant, patterned, ornate Parisian tile, whether Metro floors from the 19th century or more recent, crisp geometric patterns. Followers get to wander beyond Erras on his urban journeys.
The photographer inspires all of us flaneurs to look a little closer at our mundane city surroundings. Erras’s shoes are a secondary star of @parisianfloors, taking up the bottom of every photo.
