Square pendant with mirror. This large oblong jewel with pearl pendants is composed of an 18th-century cameo, a 17th-century French enamel plaque, and a later gold enamelled frame, also French. The plaque depicts Apollo chasing Daphne while the cameo shows a statue of Pan. Proof that this piece is a concoction comes from a plaster mould for the cover that survives in the workshop of notorious 19th-century Parisian restorer/faker Alfred André (1839–1919).
