The sunsets in Monterey Bay continue to amaze with every passing day. Here, we were surrounded by about 20 whales during a lull in a feeding frenzy, when a few started to approach our boat. This particular humpback was coming in the right direction where I'd get the broad side view of his fluke. As he arched his back, I had my camera ready as his tail just started to break the water's surface. As it rose out of the sea, water fell steadily off the back, but not before illuminating in the warm setting sun. The humpback whale's fluke will grow between 12-15 feet wide and as you can see here, I couldn't even fit the whole thing in this post!
