Photo by @markleongphotography. The Konyaks of Hongphoi celebrates the 50-year jubilee of the village’s conversion to Christianity. The festivities take place over several evenings in a large revival tent. Inside, the youth worship team leads prayers and hymns with guitars, drums and cheerleader pom-poms. Outside the tent, they are shadows, but the singing is loud and strong.

The Northeast Indian state of Nagaland is home to 16 indigenous hill tribes. Formerly headhunters, today 90% of Nagas are baptized Christians. Warrior ways have continued, however, with armed insurgents fighting India for autonomy. In August, the Central Government just signed a peace framework with the NSCN-IM, which is the largest of the insurgent groups. See my profile link for full Nat Geo story.
