About the Shot - Getting Pitted: It was a hot day in northern California with my buddy @keith_chiseki and we were set on adventuring to the Pit River. The Pit is great summer kayaking as it is dam controlled, giving us the water we needed to run the falls. We arrived at the falls mid afternoon with plenty of time to get in a few laps on the super fun 30 footer. The ritual at this drop is to never scout it, meaning whether it’s your first time or you have ran it before, you are always encouraged to ride the unknown unicorn and give'er a try without having a look at the lip. We mounted up our cameras and I opted to try a blade mount which can always make things interesting on a waterfall. Luckily I didn’t beater too hard and came away with a couple of keepers to savor the summer classic.
How the Shot was Captured: The night before our adventure to the Pit, I heated up a flat adhesive sticky and with an LCD BacPac attached to my HERO4 Black I framed up the shot on my paddle. The photo was captured in TimeLapse Mode at a .5sec interval with ProTune On, ISO 400, auto white balance, and sharpening on Low.
PRO TIP: ALWAYS remember to use a FLOATY around water my friends! The camera I was wearing on my head got ripped off from the turbulence at the bottom of the falls and luckily my floaty came through this day as my camera was bobbing next to shore at the bottom of the drop.
