This toilet bowl from around 1900 is on display in #ObjectProject. We don't think about them much today, but toilets are an everyday thing that really changed American life. Many municipalities got sewage systems in the 1880s as understanding of "germ theory" spread. By the 1890s, wash-down siphon models pouring 5-7 gallons of water became more common.

But what about toilet paper? Rolled, perforated paper was first patented in the late 1870s. By the 1890s, it came on tubes like today.
So if you ever build a time machine, think really hard before setting the dial to pre-1890s! ??? #ToiletHistoryTuesday #JustKidding #DrWho #TARDIS #Plumbing #Innovation
