Photo by Stephanie Sinclair @stephsinclairpix // @thephotosociety The Kumari of Tokha, nine-year-old Dangol, became a living goddess as an infant. A kumari’s eyes are believed to draw the beholder into direct contact with the divine. For religious festivals her forehead is painted red, a sign of creative energy. Like other kumaris, Dangol wears special makeup for festivals. But it’s more than makeup that changes on these occasions. Former kumaris have described feeling bigger and stronger and said that heat radiates from their foreheads. For more information about Nepal's Living Goddesses, please see our story in the June edition of the magazine, which just hit stands. The online version can be seen here: http://bit.ly/1IqEtZg . Each of the kumaris in the Kathmandu Valley survived the recent disasters and our thoughts remain with the country during this trying time.
