Photo by Jeff Gusky @hiddenwwi | Fort de la Malmaison in Picardy was the site of fierce fighting during a French offensive in 1917 that displaced the German army from the fort. It began in the pre-dawn hours in the rain and mud. Intense use of poison gas by the French prevented the Germans from retrieving their wounded.
Fort de la Malmaison is about 2 hours north of Paris and is open to the public.
