An easy way to escape the usual tourist traps of a destination is to go where the locals go. How do you find out where they go? Ask them. I find that if I take a local cab, rickshaw, or even camel, it’s easy to persuade the driver to avoid the norm and take me somewhere more authentic. In fact, they’re normally delighted to show off the real side of their hometown. You can end up in amazing restaurants, photographing unique scenery or wandering down hidden back streets.
