The cute, colorful bandages they dress these poor little kitties up in, can't cover up this atrocity. If cat owners who declaw saw what happened behind the scenes, they would be appalled. Vet techs please send me your stories so you too can help to end this horrible thing.
Here is a note from a vet tech…
One of the saddest times in my life is when I was a vet tech. I wanted to help animals, be a kind soul and a helping hand in a world that may not always be that for them. Boy, I did not know what I was getting into. Helping was what it was, but I felt like I was helping to hurt them more than to help them. I worked as a vet tech in a small town in Worland, Wyoming. The vet clinic I worked at was one of only 2 clinics in town. We'd always taken our pets there and that's where I went for a "job" when I thought I wanted to work with animals. I saw so many declaws and I saw the horror and the aftermath and the unimaginable pain these poor cats were in. The vet used a guillotine blade to do the amputations, and it was the most horrible and atrocious thing I have ever seen... I can still hear the bones crushing as he opened and closed the blade. He seemed to have little regard for the fact that he was mutilating these poor animals and setting them up for a life of pain. Too many cats to count. too much pain, too much blood and bloody bandages and it was too sad to see, day in and day out. Why did people continue to do this to the animals they claimed to love? Why did the vet do this knowing the pain and agony it would cause the animal they claim to care about?
I realize now that the veterinaian I was working for did not care about these animals, he only cared about his bottom line and keeping his customers happy. I'm sorry I left the vet world before I got a chance to make a difference, but back then the sadness consumed me and I couldn't continue to help harm the animals I sought to help and protect. I'll help now by doing what I can do promote the outlawing of this barbaric and inhumane procedure and being a voice for cats that don't have a voice.
