This past weekend we lost a very dear and old friend of ours, Ben Deitz. Many of you probably know Ben under his DJ monikers: Math Head and Passions. He was a founding member of @troubleandbass and an integral fixture in NYC's early Heavy Bass dance scene. We first met Ben in 2005, or so, when he sent a random email asking if he and @dropthelime could spin at a small party we were hosting. They did spin at that party, and we forged an instant bond with Ben and began a fruitful artistic relationship. He produced four fantastic mixes for us, modeled in our lookbooks and catalogs, contributed to our blog, and produced and promoted many memorable events. But most importantly, we became friends. In recent years, Ben had limited his DJing and began focusing on two wonderful synth based Post-Punk projects. Ben took his darker dance moniker of Passions and reinvented it as a full-fledged band. Their self-titled 2010 album was a fantastic throwback to 80s era minimal synth. Afterwards, Ben went on to form the prog inspired Goitia Deitz project along with Jay Gotia. They put out four releases, including 2015’s “MODE.” Ben has left a small but powerful legacy as a DJ and musician. We encourage everyone to discover, explore and share Ben's gifts. He was truly an incredible talent and one of the sweetest and most genuine human beings to ever walk the earth. We’ll miss him and his wonderful silver mane.
