If you are interested in how these feathers were shot or how I have solved problems on any number of the diverse assignments that I have worked on for the @ナショナルジオグラフィック please come to intimate workshop May 30-31st. at my studio in the Brooklyn Navy Yard. The workshop is for anyone who wants to understand lighting and how to improve it’s use, be it natural light or artificial. Go to my bio or send and email to Robert@RobertClark.com

The above Feathers are from the Souther Giant Petrel, an #Arctic birds that are very hardy. The #Petrel have to survive in an environment that is overall hostile and very difficult to live in. The phenotypic adaptations of the bird include nasal passageways that filter out the salt from the air, and has wax ester-filled glands used to spit on attackers when threatened, a wax that mattes feathers together and can lead to the death of an attacker.
Due to their diet of carrion, offal, discarded fish and waste, they are often known as ‘stinkpots’. Pictured is a section of a petrel wing, a dense overlay of feathers that gather together as a ‘high-aspect ratio’ wing-type, designed to fly with minimal effort in all conditions, gliding for a majority of the flying period throughout their 98,000,000km2 roaming area. @Robert Clark @ナショナルジオグラフィック @thephotosociety @instituteartist
