Rebecca Ortiz dressed as a character called Elbi at the annual #SakuraMatsuri Festival, which showcases traditional and modern Japanese culture. For @fredrconrad, the event was a dream assignment. In its 34th year, the festival, which was held over the weekend at @brooklynbotanic, has expanded to include a fashion show of #cosplay — a term short for costume play. This was @fredrconrad’s second time shooting the festival, which he said has grown since he last attended in 2012. He didn’t see anyone in a furry costume on Sunday, when it was warmer. “You sweat," he said. "Every time I see somebody in one of those costumes all I think about is a high school gym locker.”
