Photo by @ciriljazbec Returning to Uummannaq with a dogsled. You can see the ice getting darker and thinner as the temperatures rise. The hunter only uses his whip to direct the dogs to turn left or right, to ensure he is going in the right direction and to avoid dangerous areas where the ice is too thin. One time one of the dogs fell into the water – the ice was too thin, so it cracked and broke; luckily, the hunter was quick enough to react – he stopped the dogs, pulled them back, and then rode on calmly. I confess I got quite a scare out of it, as I’d heard dozens of stories of tragic accidents on melting ice. @ナショナルジオグラフィック #Arctic #Greenland #thin #ice #climate #change
