Waleed Al Shok moved his family to the #Bronx last March from #Baghdad, where he worked as an interpreter for the U.S. #military, a job that ultimately put his family's safety at risk. After they were granted refugee status, they left #Iraq with the help of @theirc. Now, Waleed works full-time as a doorman at a hotel in midtown Manhattan. He trained to be a Phys Ed teacher in Iraq and hopes to find out whether he might one day teach in the U.S. @heislerphoto photographed him for #nytbeginnings. #everydaybronx
