On #InternationalWomensDay & #Selma50, thanks & praises to those - besides my mom(!) - who helped shaped my young, child-of-the-sixties, political head (and hair!) - like Angela Davis, fierce mind/voice for global social/economic justice, who at a 1989 lecture in New Haven, CT alerted me to, among other things, the truth that Rosa Parks refused to give up her bus seat to a white person that day not because her feet were tired (the widely sold story) but rather because she had been an active participant in the political struggle - worked inside the NAACP - and, if "tired," was, as Martin Luther King Jr. described it, "tired of being trampled by the iron feet of oppression." Why had I even bought into the false narrative? So much progress in the past 50 years, as John Lewis has said, but more to be won. #ALutaContinua
