When I was in San Diego, I had the chance to photography the Palm Cockatoo, ( #ProboscigerAterrimus ) — Originating in #PapuaNewGuinea and Queensland, Australia. These little guys are also known as the ‘Goliath Cockatoo’, and they weigh a full on kilogram (1000g). Though you can’t see it in this frame, their beaks are one of the largest in the #cacatuoidea superfamily of the Cockatoo, and they are known for being tool users as well as, interestingly, musicians.

The Palm cockatoo is known to break twigs and ‘drum’ on seed pods. It’s not entirely known why.
