The harsh land is integral to this nomadic herder culture with deep roots in high pastures. "Koh-o mar-domon moya," a saying goes: "The mountains are our people." After the picture was published in National Geographic, Mike Libecki, later a NG Adventurer of the Year, using this photograph, found this area and climbed these avalanche-prone peaks.
