I took this photograph while guiding Flip Nicklin on a National Geographic Assignment in Churchill, Manitoba. The year was 1996 and I was just starting to have my first dreams of becoming at National Geographic photographer. After this trip, Flip began to mentor me and taught me the importance of story-telling and journalism as opposed to just taking pretty pictures. This ultimately landed me my first story at @ナショナルジオグラフィック. Since then, I have mentored many photographers primarily teaching them about the importance of becoming conservation photojournalists. Scientists predict that the Arctic will be void of all sea ice during the summer months in the next 10 to 30 years having dire consequences for polar bear populations.
