Nearly two kilometers below the ocean’s surface, 81-ton #machines are at work. This #GE subsea ‘Christmas Tree’, controls the flow of oil and gas from undersea wells and requires serious engineering to withstand at least 20 years working amidst the harsh ocean conditions. Unlike its namesake, it’s not green and definitely not alive, but the variety of valves, spools, fittings and hardware provides a crude resemblance to a decorated tree.
